APOLLO TYRES LTD
Named after the Greek sun god, Apollo, the Apollo Tyres has created a niche for itself in the Indian tyre market. After three decades of consistent growth, Apollo tyres is the leadinf Indian tyre manufacturer, with annual revenues of over US$1.2 billion.
The history of the company dates back to the early 70s. In t1972, the licence was acquired by Mr. Mathew T Marattukalam, Jacob Thomas and his associates. The company was taken over by Mr. Raunaq Singh and his associates in 1974. The implementation of the tyre project began in Perambra (Kerala). In 1977, the commercial production began with an installed capacity of 420,000 each of tyres and tubes. In 2006, the company acquired Dunlop Tyres international of south Africa. The company is among the top 15 tyre manufacturers in the world in terms of revenue.
The company has now four manufacturing units in India, two in south Africa and two in Zimbabwe. It has a network of over 2000 dealers in India, of which over 2500 are exclusive outlets. In South Africa, it has over 900 dealerships of which 190 are Dunlop Accredited dealers. The research and development of Apollo tyres took place at Perambra in Cochin and later it had grown to its present height and stature at Limda, Baroda. All the activities in the R&D are supported by sophisticated that help the research scientists develop products according to the customer s’ specific requirements. The centres have facilities and expertise for the following:
-Development of compounds for improved performance.
-Raw material development
-Analytical research
-Reverse engineering
-Advanced design using CAD
-FEA modeling of tyres
-Simulation testing of the finished products.
-Product validity and Reliability studies.
