The best way toachieve this goal in a harmonious and sustainable manner is by ensuring economic well-being of the men and women who feed our nation. The founding fathers of our nation hadclearly elucidated that farmers are the backbone of India and unless they prosper, our nationcannot realize its growth potential.Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel knew that India will achieve true independence only wheneconomic welfare of its farmers is assured.To achieve his vision, he inspired creation of institution like AMUL, which are responsive to the genuine needs of rural India. Shri LalBhadur Shasrti strongly believed that our farmer will make our country self sufficient interms of foodrequirement provided they are adequately supported with appropriate publicpolicies with respect to input ant output pricing and marketing. Shastriji repeatedlyemphasized the fact that our food security systems should be largely based on domesticproduction, since agriculture provides livelihood to a vast majority of our population. Duringhis tenure as Prime minister he inspired creation of institutional structures which enabledIndia to achieve self-reliance in the dairy sector.Mahatma Gandhi had repeatedly asserted that ‘REAL INDIA” lives in its VILLAGES. Hestressed emphatically on leveraging the ‘cooperative form of organization’ as an effectiveinstrument of rural development. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had great faith in co-operation asmeans of promoting farmer’s well being. He was the prime source of inspiration behind“AMUL” condition of rural India.“India is on a passage to prosperity. Health, Wealth and Knowledge are the three vehicles forhis growth. People of India have started feeling an inner strength and hope to make thisdream a reality by year 2020”
