A line follower is an autonomous robot that navigates following a line present on the surface below the robot. The specifications of the line are in terms of its width and its colour with respect to the colour of the background. This document describes a circuit to implement the sensor that can be designed to work with different line specifications and provide the output in a digital format so it is much easier to use; And its results. It presents a complete idea by which the threshold for the detection of the line from the bottom is chosen and the circuit is designed to implement the same. It also describes the different frequency ranges that can be used for it, such as infrared and basic colours of the visible spectrum, and their respective characteristics.
The robot that follows the line is a common autonomous robot that finds several applications in the field of robotics. It is essentially a bot that can navigate by itself to follow a line. The line maybe a predefined route for the bot to continue depending on the application. The work of the line follower can be divided into two parts, namely the sensor used for the detection of the line and the microcontroller that takes the input of the sensor and, consequently, decides in which direction to move. Line that follows the sensor to work with various line specifications and does not deal with the robot's microcontroller appearance.
