DEFINITION
Biometrics is the modern method for physical identification.
This term have been used since early in the 20th century for the analysis of data from agricultural field experiments to compare the yield of different varieties of wheat.
Recently the term biometrics has also been used to refer to the emerging field of technology devoted to identification of individuals using biological traits.

How it works ?
The user presses his finger gently against a small reader surface (optical or silicon) usually about 2 inch square size.That reader is attached to computer to the information within, and that information is compared to database already stored.
How the scanner works ?
The human fingerprint is made up of ridges that take the shape of loops,arches, and whorls.
Two types of scanner are used
Optical reader (inexpensive and durable)
silicon reader (higher quality)
In silicon chip based scanners a chip measures skin capacitance to discover the ridge pattern in the finger print
