In a conventional radix-8 converter decoded the multiplier, the full adders and the summing means are used to add and carry. After partial reduction of the product using cabin decoding, the rows of partial products are required to be added for the final result. In this method the look-ahead aggregators (CLA) are used to add the reduced partial product generated after decoding the multiplier bits. The carry look-ahead sink generates the load and sum simultaneously. 5 bit and 8 bit carry look-ahead adders are used to add reduced partial product terms in the proposed circuit. The proposed method is used to implement 8-bit multiplication using the radix-8 decoded cabin multiplier. The circuit is designed and simulated using cadence virtuosity EDA tool in 180nm CMOS technology. The results of the simulation show a power reduction of 11.48% and a reduction of the propagation delay by 33.06% compared to the conventional method.
Multipliers play an important role in digital signal processing (DSP) systems. They are used in recursive and transverse filter implementations, discrete Fourier transform, correlation, rank measurement. Regular advances in technology made it possible to design multipliers that are both high speed and regularly in the proper arrangement for VLSI implementation. In any multiplication algorithm, the operation is reduced to a partial sum of the product. Each partial product denotes a multiple of the multiply that must be added to the final result. In the radix-2 algorithm, we form a series of products between the multiplying, Y, and each bit of the multiplier, X, resulting in partial products. After that, all the partial products are added. We use redundant arithmetic to get the additions as fast as possible. In general, speed can be increased by a CSA tree.
