this pre-payment energy metering system uses two-way mifare card communications. two-way secure communication of data is provided through the use of a myfire card or memory card which conveys data from the utility service provider to the customer's terminal and also conveys information from the customer's terminal back to the utility. the pre-payment power system of the present invention allows consumers to pay for electricity prior to consumption through the use of the mifire card which is loaded the funds at a fully automatic point-of-sale (pos) terminal or at the utility service providers staffed customer service.
in this project report we are using mifare card module. once the card is recharged the energy can be utilized, and as the units in the smart card go decreasing there is a facility for buzzer indicating that units are going to be completed. the mifare card reader is used to read the data from the mifare card. the energy and subsequent money for the consumer to pay and display the same lcd. this makes it more communicative with the user and thus user can access the exact amount of consumption in terms of the currency, which in turn helps to optimize the power consumption. the mifare reader sends the data to the microcontroller. these details are displayed in the lcd.
mifare technology is a 13.56 mhz contact less technology that is owned by philips electronics. mifare is often considered to be a "smart card" technology. although contact smart cards could also do the job, contact less readers are faster and easier to use, and there is virtually no maintenance on the readers, or wear and tear on the cards. the mifare card has 16 separate sectors, which can be configured as purses or for general data storage. the first sector is typically used as a directory for the rest of the card, leaving 15 segments available for data or purses. up to 15 different applications can be stored on a mifare card, and these applications will be separate and secure from one another by using unique keys (passwords) for each sector.
