1. INTRODUCTION:-
A STUDY ON EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION TOWARDS RECRUITMENT PROCESS.
1.1 INDUSTRY PROFILE:-

India has been known as the original home of sugar and sugarcane. Indian mythology supports the above fact as it contains legends showing the origin of sugarcane. India is the second largest producer of sugarcane. India is the largest single producer of sugar including traditional cane sugar sweeteners, khandsari and Gur equivalent to 26 million tonnes raw value followed by Brazil in the second place at 18.5 million tonnes. Even in respect of white crystal sugar, India has ranked No.1 position in 7 out of last 10 years.
Traditional sweeteners Gur & Khandsari are consumed mostly by the rural population in India. In the early 1930’s nearly 2/3rd of sugarcane production was utilised for production of alternate sweeteners, Gur & Khandsari. With better standard of living and higher incomes, the sweetener demand has shifted to white sugar. Currently, about 1/3rd sugarcane production is utilized by the Gur & Khandsari sectors. Being in the small scale sector, these two sectors are completely free from controls and taxes which are applicable to the sugar sector.
The advent of modern sugar processing industry in India began in 1930 with grant of tariff protection to the Indian sugar industry. The number of sugar mills increased from 30 in the year 1930 - 31 to 135 in the year 1935-36 and the production during the same period increased from 1.20 lakh tonnes to 9.34 lakh tonnes under the dynamic leadership of the private sector.
The era of planning for industrial development began in 1950-51 and Government laid down targets of sugar production and consumption, licensed and installed capacity, sugarcane production during each of the Five Year Plan periods. The targets and achievements during various plan periods are given below.
1.2 ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE:-
The Company was incorporated on 12-5-1961 and the certificate of commencement of business was obtained on 11-5-1962. The Sugar Factory at Sakthinagar with a capacity of1250 tonnes crush per day (TCD) commenced production in the year 1964. The capacity of this unit was increased in stages to 6000 TCD to accommodate increased quantum of sugarcane available at the command area of this factory. The capacity has been increased to 9000 TCD in March 2007.
The performance of the sugar unit has been efficient all along from its inception and bagged the National ward for achieving highest quantum of sugarcane crushed (21.65 lakh MT) in a single unit during 2005-06 crushing season. This unit has bagged national efficiency award consecutively for three years since the inception of the award. This award has been given to this unit for achieving minimum loss in sugar recovery.
In the year 1972, the Distillery Unit was established at the precincts of Sakthinagar Sugar Unit with a capacity to produce 9000 Kilo Litres of industrial alcohol per annum. The capacity of this Unit has been further increased to 27,500 Kilo Litres per annum in December 1992. During December 2007, the capacity of the Distillery was further increased from 90 KLPD to 120 KLPD.
In the year 1988-89, a second sugar unit with licensed and installed capacity of 2500 TCD has been established in Mathur-Kannariruppu Village in Sivaganga Taluk of Tamilnadu State and the Unit commenced operation in March 1989. The capacity of this Unit has been increased from 2500 TCD to 4000 TCD in May 2000 to accommodate increased quantum of sugarcane available at the factory’s command area.
The Soya Division was amalgamated with this Company with effect from 1-4-1993 Pursuant to sanction of the scheme of amalgamation of Sakthi Soyaa Limited; by the High Court of Madras vide its order dated 4-1-1995. The installed capacity of Soya Division is 90000 MT per annum.
The Company”s Sugar unit withna crushing capacity of 2500 TCD at Haripur Village in Dhenkanal District of Orissa State started commercial production in May 1994. The capacity of this unit has been restructured to 1500 TCD to commensurate with the sugarcane availability in its command area.
In the year 1995, the company has installed a Distillery with 10000 KL of industrial alcohol per annum capacity at the precincts of Dhenkanal Sugar Unit to take an advantage of captive molasses available from the sugar unit in Orissa.
FEATURES OF VARIOUS UNITS:
a) Sakthinagar Sugar Unit:-
 More than 35000 acres of Sugarcane available around the factory is supported by rever and canal irrigation. Pioneering refforts put in by the cane department has increased the yield per hectare to more than 125 MT.
 Secured National Efficiency Award for many years.
b) Sivaganga Sugar Unit:-
 More than 18000 acres of sugarcane is available within 40 Kms of the factory supported by river, pond and well irrigation.
c) Dhenkanal Sugar Unit:-
 Perennial rivers like Mahanadhi and Brahmani run through Dhenkanal and Cuttack Districts.
 Sugarcane is fetched from more than 6000 acres in Dhenkanal and Cuttack area and there is no Purchase Tax on sugarcane.
d) Modakurichi Sugar Unit:
 A new green field sugar plant with a crushing capacity of 3500 TCD along with 25 MW cogeneration plant were set up at Poondurai Semur Village, Modakurichi Taluk in Erode District which have been commissioned on 7-9-2007.
e) Sakthinagar Distillery Unit:
 This is the largest industrial alcohol manufacturing distillery in Tamilnadu.
 It has facility to produce ethanol (Anhydrous alcohol) for supply to oil companies, pursuant to Government’s permission to mix ethanol with petrol as fuel upto 10%.
f) Dhenkanal Distillery Unit:
 It is the largest Distillery in the state of Orissa.
 It has all the advantages and features as are available in the company’s Sakthinagar Distillery Unit.
g) Soya Unit:
 It has solvent extraction and oil refining plants imported from M/s.Extractions Technik, West Germany who are world renowned suppliers of such machinery.
 It has seed processing and edible flour making plant imported from M/s. Buhler Brothers, Switzerland, who are again the world class suppliers of such machineries.
h) Sakthi Auto Component Ltd:-
 Sakthi Auto Component Limited is a major supplier of critical components to passenger car manufacturers. The components are Steering knuckles, Brake drums, Brake discs, Hubs, Brake calipers, Carriers, Differential cases and Manifolds etc.
 Presently the supplies of these components are made to Maruti Udyog Ltd., Hyundai, Ind Auto Ltd., Ford, Honda Siel Cars and Tractors and farm Equipment Ltd. etc,. Castings meant for trucks and refineries are exported to USA. The quantum of exports per month ranges between 250 MT to 500 MT. It is likely to go up to 1000 MT in near future.
