Industrial wastewater treatment covers the mechanisms and processes used to treat wastewater produced as a by-product of industrial or commercial activities. After treatment, treated industrial wastewater (or effluents) may be reused or released in a sanitary sewer or in surface water of the environment. Most industries produce some wastewater although recent trends in the developed world have been to minimize such production or to recycle such wastewater into the production process. However, many industries continue to rely on processes that produce wastewater.

Industrial wastewater contains a variety of impurities, and therefore, for this reason alone, its treatment is a special task. In addition, the emission limits of industrial effluents are constantly being tightened. Closed circuits and the recovery of products in various production processes are becoming a growing priority among manufacturing companies. These measures represent an additional contribution to the protection of aquatic ecosystems and have great potential for cost reduction.

WABAG can refer to the long-term experience in the industrial wastewater treatment sector. The resulting experience is advantageously used for the technical and economic optimization of each subsequent installation. The treatment process may contain mechanical, biological and chemical physical process stages.

In the case of biological treatment, anaerobic wastewater, we use conventional processes and high performance reactors that save space. We have completed a large number of large-scale plants based on the most commonly used UASB process in the world. Other systems are also used according to the characteristics of the waste water, eg. The activated sludge process or our high-performance BIOPUR® system for the least contaminated water. In the case of maximum cleaning requirements (eg water reuse) we use membrane processes with submerged or external membranes. The advantages are considerable savings of liquid resources and practically no discharge of waste water.
