Seven basic tools of quality

As part of Japan's industrial training program, seven basic tools of quality (also called 7 QC equipment) originated in Japan when the country was passing through a major quality revolution and became a compulsory subject. These tools were helpful in solving important quality issues, including simple graphical and statistical techniques. These tools were often called the seven basic instruments of quality because these devices could be applied by any person with very basic training in data and it was easy to apply to solve quality complex problems.

7 QC instruments can be applied to any industry that starts from the development stage to the distribution. 7QC equipment is still the owner of the same popularity and is used extensively in the continuous improvement process (PDCA cycle) and lean management (removal of waste from the process) in different stages of Six Sigma (DMAIC or DMADV).

There are seven QC devices:

Stratification (division and winning)
Histogram
Check sheet (Tally sheet)
Cause and Effect Diagram ("Fishbone" or Ishikawa Image)
Parato Chart (80/20 rule)
Scatter chart
Control chart
