It is estimated that humans are producing the equivalent of 10 million Blu-ray data discs every day - and all those and zeros have to be stored somewhere. Now researchers in the UK could only have the solution: a five-dimensional digital data disk (5D) that can store 360 terabytes of data. By using 5-dimensional shapes that are laser-etched into microscale glass disks, Southampton University has developed the highest storage efficiency in a data storage device to date. Disks also have the longest lifespan of any data storage device to date. With all the amazing things they can do, people around the world are excited to have their hands in one.
