Air Show is post-processing visualization software for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). By reading binary PLOT3D grid and solution files in Air Show, the engineer can quickly see how hundreds of complex 3-D structured blocks are arranged and numbered. In addition, the chosen grid planes can be displayed and colored according to different amounts of aerodynamic flow such as Mach number and pressure. The user can interactively rotate and translate graphic objects with the mouse. The software source code was written in Java, C ++ and OpenGL multi-platform, and runs on Unix, Linux and Windows. The graphical user interface (GUI) was written using Java Swing. Java also provides multiple, synchronized threads. The Java Native (JNI) interface provides a bridge between Java code and C ++ code where PLOT3D files are read, OpenGL graphics are rendered, and numeric calculations are performed. Air Show is easy to learn and easy to use. The source code is available free of charge at the Office of Technology Transfer and Partnership of NASA.
