In all 24 councils has been released and is aimed at people interested in building buildings. The Councils cover topics such as basic introduction to earthquakes and terminology such as magnitude and intensity, earthquake resistant design concepts and aspects of a seismic design and building construction. Maximum care is taken to ensure that despite the complexity of the concepts, the Councils are simple and unambiguous. To ensure the highest quality of technical content, each Council is carefully reviewed by two or more experts both inside and outside India and their feedback is used before finalizing the Councils.
The Boards are published for all magazines, magazines and newspapers interested. The Boards are also posted on the Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) website (www.bmtpc.org). The project has far exceeded our own expectations: a large number of architectural, construction and structural engineering journals, and many prestigious newspapers have published some or all of the Councils.
The conventional seismic design attempts to make buildings that do not collapse under heavy earthquake shakes, but may suffer damage to nonstructural elements (such as glass facades) and to some structural members of the building. This can make the building not work after the earthquake, which can be problematic in some structures, such as hospitals, that must remain functional after the earthquake. Special techniques are required to design buildings so that they remain virtually intact even in a severe earthquake. Buildings with improved seismic performance usually cost more than normal buildings do. However, this cost is justified through better seismic performance. Two basic technologies are used to protect buildings against the effects of earthquakes. These are basic insulation devices and seismic dampers. The idea behind core insulation is to separate (isolate) the building from the ground in such a way that earthquake movements are not transmitted upward through the building, or at least greatly reduced. Seismic dampers are special devices introduced into the building to absorb the energy provided by the movement of the floor to the building (much like the shock absorbers in motor vehicles absorb the impacts due to undulations of the road).
