An Electrical Substation is a subsidiary station of an Electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution System where the voltage is transformed from high to low or reverse using a transformer.

The substation at Sarusajai, Guwahati-781034, Assam was completed by 1986 under AEGCL; It is one of the largest power grids in the state of Assam and northeastern India.This substation has the capacity of 220kv and can down to 132kv using three input lines through the incoming feeders. The input feeders are: AGIA- i; AGIA-ii; LONGPI-i; LONGPI-ii; SAMUGURI-i; SAMUGURI- ii.All these feeders enter the substation with 220kv. The substation has another substation below it. The capacity of this is 132kv / 33kv. The termination was carried out in 1997 under the AEGCL law. The purpose of this station was to pass through the 132kv to direct the distribution to substations of 33kv / 11kv in six different areas of the state. The 132kv / 33kv substation has six outgoing feeders, namely: JWAHAR NAGAR, GARBHANGA, MIRZA, PALTAN BAZAR, and Kahilipara STATION.These out feeders are from the 33kv line. The most important of any substation is the earthing of instruments, transformers, etc., used in the substation. For the grounding of the substation, a metal square or some metal boxes in the form of poly are placed in the ground. These earth the extra high voltage to the ground. As it is dangerous for us to approach the instrument without proper ground. If the instruments are not ground properly they can give a huge shock to anyone who would stay close to it and also it is dangerous for the expensive instrument as they can get damaged by this high voltage.
