The departments of Business Studies, Science and Art are collaborating in a joint business activity to give students the opportunity to see how the company works. Each department will play a different role and develop communication links to work as teams to make the project a success. The project will involve the manufacture of soap products to sell.
The roles are as follows:
Science - STEMNET students, under the direction of Dr. Bonsi and Ms. Glenister, will be the production arm of the company. They will be responsible for ensuring that the product is done efficiently, safely, to a good standard and on time. This will require good teamwork, communication and self-management. In addition to participating in the project, these students will also be working to obtain the Crest Bronze Award from the British Science Association
Business - Sixth grade and Year 11 students have been selected to put theory into practice. They will be the main strategic arm of the operation and will be responsible for deciding on the target market and what products they may want, managing costs and revenues, and communicating with the other two departments so that they can fulfill their functions. Teamwork and good communication will be essential.
Art - Art students selected by Mrs. Needham will take on the role of an advertising agency. You will contact the business department to get an idea of the requirements and use the creativity to design potential marketing materials that could be used to communicate with customers. This will require good communication, creativity and thoughtfulness.
The project is a continuous activity of the company with the potential to give the different students the opportunity to participate each term. We hope to give students the opportunity to develop all of their GELS in a real-life business environment.
