Sun Spot (Sun Small Programmable Object Technology) is a wireless sensor network (WSN) mote developed by Sun Microsystems. The device is built upon the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Unlike other available mote systems, the Sun SPOT is built on the Java 2 Micro Edition Virtual Machine (JVM).

In nature, it is solar power that creates wind power. Consider the example of the sea breeze. The sun heats both land and sea, but the land heats up more quickly and reaches a higher temperature than the sea. The air over the land becomes hotter than the air over the sea and the hot air rises, creating an area of lower air pressure (close to the surface).
