ABSTRACT

This paper describes in detail, field experiments performed on a single-phase, distribution transformer to study the behavior of transformer terminal parameters during internal winding faults. A custom-built transformer provided with external taps was used for these tests. The taps were used to stage various internal winding faults in the transformer. Terminal values of voltages and currents were monitored and the results presented. A comparison of these results with simulation results is also presented

A prototype of a fully electronic on-load semiconductor tap changer for power transformer has been
designed and built. With the emergence of high power semiconductor devices, problems associated with the mechanical on-load tap changer have been properly rectified. In this work, the prototype was constructed with triacs as the switching devices and microcontroller as the triggering circuit. The results obtained from this work show that the prototype has a faster time response of approximately 0.44s to react to any load chang ....etc

How to use a mains transformer (for instance 110-230 Volt and 50-60 Hz) in an electronic project. Do's and dont's with mains transformers in home brew electronics.

Saturation of the core means that the core gets more or less permanenty magnetised. In that case the magnetic field is not built up (and decreased) quickly enough (50 Hz -60 Hz), the permanent field acts as a sort of brake for quick magnetic changes and the power cannot be well transferred from the primary to the secundary coil.
