The interface between different fields is believed to be fertile ground for breakthrough research. The interface between the emerging fields of biotechnology and nanotechnology is particularly interesting. Materials Science research is now entered a new phase where the structure and properties of materials are investigated, characterized and controlled at the nanoscale. We present deterministic sub-linear space algorithms for a number of problems over update data streams, including, estimating fre- quencies of items and ranges, ¯nding approximate frequent items and approximate Á-quantiles, estimating inner-products, constructing near- optimal B-bucket histograms and estimating entropy. We also present new lower bound results for several problems over update data streams.

The project Rich Site Summary aims at producing software that checks a website for updates and generate the RSS feed automatically for that website, also an RSS reader which will parse the RSS feeds of specified websites and provides the user with latest updates.
