Pulse-width modulation (PWM)or duty-cycle variation methodsare commonly used in speedcontrol of DC motors. The duty cycleis defined as the percentage of digital‘high’ to digital ‘low’ plus digital ‘high’pulse-width during a PWM period.Fig. 1 shows the 5V pulses with 0%through 50% duty cycle.The average DC voltage value for0% duty cycle is zero; with 25% dutycycle the average value is 1.25V (25%of 5V). With 50% duty cycle the averagevalue is 2.5V, and if the duty cycleis 75%, the average voltage is 3.75Vand so on. The ....etc

ABSTRACT
This paper focused on the development of capacitor voltage
balancing methods in a flying capacitor multilevel inverter
(FCMLI) fed induction motor drive. For improving the
performance of flying capacitor multilevel inverter, a switching
pattern selection scheme is implemented. The proposed method
has been designed a seven-level flying capacitor multilevel
inverter by using sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique.

Introduction to Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)
In this technique several pulses are produced in each half – cycle but the width of the pulses
is not the same as in case of multiple – pulse width modulation, however the width of each pulse is
varied in accordance with the amplitude of the sine wave reference voltage. The width of the pulse
at the center of the half – cycle is maximum and decreases on either side. The figure 6(a) shows the

1. INTRODUCTION
Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique is an effective way of controlling the speed of induction motor, and thus allowing the motor to be applied in the area requiring speed control. Available techniques to control the speed of induction motor are: varying the slip by changing rotor resistance or terminal voltage and varying synchronous speed by changing number of poles or supply frequency.
