Milk Union, Patiala was registered under the Cooperative Societies Act of 1961 on January 30, 1979 by the Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Punjab, Chandigarh see Registry No. 1355 and the acquisition of milk began in July 1980 at leased premises .
Approximately 21 acres 6 channel land for the current milk plant was purchased in June 1982 and the Stone Foundation was put in July 1983 by the Hon. Senior Minister, S. Darbara Singh for the construction of the milk plant in A cost of Rs.4.32 crore. The milk cooling facilities were started at their own facilities in January 1985 and the milk plant in its current form with a handling capacity of one liter of milk per day was inaugurated on July 30, 1988 by Dr. MS Gill, IAS, the then Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Punjab.
The union is facilitated by its two milk refrigeration centers, namely Samana and Bhuri Majra with respective handling capacities of 10,000 LPD and 7500 LPD. Milk Union Patiala is an ISO 9001 IS-15000 (HACCP) plant, GMP ISO-22000, where all the quality standards are observed and maintained to supply the final products of the best quality products to our esteemed customers. The plant is also in the process of obtaining the Quality Mark of the National Dairy Development Board.
The plant is supplying Verka Milk and Fresh Milk Products to the following renowned Institutions in the Patiala District, ie the National Sports Institute, Govt. Rajindra Hospital, University of Punjabi, Thapar University, Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital, Central Prison, I.T.B.P. (Border Police of Tibet of India), Female Polytechnic, Federal Mougal, Jawaharlal Navodaya Vidyalaya, IIT, Roorki and Cheese Processed to the Defense Authorities
Milk Union, Patiala have been awarded the Punjab State Security Award -1988 (Food Industry), National Productivity Council National Productivity Award, New Delhi 2004-05 (Small Units), National Productivity Award National Productivity Council, New Delhi for 2005-06 (Small Units), Won 1st Prize for the presentation of Verka Tableau on the eve of the 62nd Independence Day.
