Mostly Excel sheets are used for design. But these can also be designed using VB.NET giving it a software interface. The designs are based on standard Indian codes. Visual Basic 2010 is used for programming. This is an effort in the development of a powerful software for water tank design that will be used by students and designers of professional structures.


In general there are three types of water tanks that rest on the ground, underground tanks and elevated tanks. The tanks rest on the ground as clean water tanks, sedimentation tanks, aeration tanks. They lean on the ground directly. The walls of these tanks are pressurized and the base is subjected to water weight and soil pressure. Tanks may be covered at the top. Tanks such as purification tanks, Imhoff tanks, septic tanks and gas tanks are built underground. The walls of these tanks are subjected to water pressure from the inside and the pressure of the earth from the outside. The base is subjected to water weight and soil pressure. These tanks may be covered at the top. Elevated tanks are supported on stage which may consist of masonry walls, R.C.C.Tower or R.C.C. Columns supported together. The walls are under water pressure. The base has to carry the water load and tank load. The staging has to load the water and tank load. Parking is also designed for wind forces. From the design point of view tanks can be classified according to their rectangular shape tanks, circular tanks, intze type tanks. Spherical tanks conical tanks for background and tanks for suspended bottom.
