Shree Khedut Sahkari Khand Udhyog Mandli borders on Bardoli, Asia's largest sugar cooperatives, has begun its crushing season with the goal of 18 lakh metric tons of sugarcane.
The Bardoli sugar factory, as it is popularly known, is the first sugar factory started in the cooperative sector in Gujarat in 1955. The society was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Morarji Desai on March 4 1956.
A function was organized at Baben in Bardoli to celebrate the start of the sugarcane crushing season in the presence of sugarcane peasants, transporters and sugar cane workers on Friday.
The president of the Bardoli sugar factory, Raman Patel, said: "This season, the Bardoli sugar factory has set itself the target of crushing 18 metric tons of sugarcane. Affected to the annual goal of the factory ".
