Title of the project
Online Voting System

Abstract of the project
On-line Voting System is a web based system that facilitates the running of elections and surveys online. This system has been developed to simplify the process of organizing elections and make it convenient for voters to vote remotely from their home computers while taking into consideration security, anonymity and providing auditioning capabilities.

Users are individuals who interact with the system. All user interaction is performed remotely through the user's web browser.
Users are categorized into three classes: Administrator, Returning Officers and Voters.
A running version of the system will have only one Administrator but it typically has multiple returning officers and voters. The administrator is responsible for managing user accounts, polls, system resources and logs and for the health and safekeeping of the system. Returning officers have the responsibility of managing a poll as assigned by the administrator, whereas voters only have the ability to submit ballots on polls in which they are admitted.
sir,
please send seminar report on online voting system

Online Voting Project
Technical Modification of the Voting System:
The previous voting system included the following steps:
-Registration of Voting
-Issue of Voting Documents
-Voting phase
-Request of blinded Voter Signature
- Issue of blinded Voting Register Signature
-Delivery of the Vote
-Confirmation of Ballot Box
-Confirmation for Register of Voters
- Confirmation of Register of Voters
-Initiate counting
-Receipt Votes for counting
The project entails the physical and administrative separation of the voting register and the ballot box. The Validator element provides the electronic voter register and the Ballot Box which contains the electronic ballot box used in the system .There is a need for Separated storage of persistent dates is a problem in the server. The identity of the people is strictly separated in the communication time.

The voting protocol has five main players:
1) Voting Client
present in a home, in a working station, or a polling booth

2) Mix Net
The mix net separates the identity of the user , randoms the order and encrypts the vote.

3)Tallier
This part counts the encrypted votes.

4)Validator
It provides the proof that the voter is authorised

5) Bulletin Board
It is the database for all the participants.

ONLINE VOTING
Abstract :
The project "Voting Software" aims at making the voting process easy in cooperative societies. Presently voting is performed using ballot paper and the counting is done manually, hence it consumes a lot of time. There can be possibility of invalid votes. All these makes election a tedious task. In our proposed system voting and counting is done with the help of computer. It saves time, avoid error in counting and there will be no invalid votes. It makes the election process easy
Functional Requirements : •To count the total number of votes. •To calculate the percentage of total votes. •To calculate votes for each candidate. •To calculate percentage of votes for each candidate. •To check for duplication. •To Find the winning persons in each section. •All the process above mentioned should be done fast
Details : Modules We have devised the following modules according to the requirements of the organization. •Administrator Module •User Module Administrator has the whole authority of the organization .He is the one who maintains all the aspects of voters and candidates. His functionalities include insertion, updation ,deletion of both the voter and the candidate. He is responsible for allowing persons to vote. User's have the provision to view the list of voters candidates and results and to vote for their desired candidate.
2. SYSTEM STUDY
2.1 FEASIBILITY STUDY

The feasibility of the project is analyzed in this phase and business proposal is put forth with a very general plan for the project and some cost estimates. During system analysis the feasibility study of the proposed system is to be carried out. This is to ensure that the proposed system is not a burden to the company. For feasibility analysis, some understanding of the major requirements for the system is essential.
Three key considerations involved in the feasibility analysis are
• ECONOMICAL FEASIBILITY
• TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY
• SOCIAL FEASIBILITY
ECONOMICAL FEASIBILITY
This study is carried out to check the economic impact that the system will have on the organization. The amount of fund that the company can pour into the research and development of the system is limited. The expenditures must be justified. Thus the developed system as well within the budget and this was achieved because most of the technologies used are freely available. Only the customized products had to be purchased.
TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY
This study is carried out to check the technical feasibility, that is, the technical requirements of the system. Any system developed must not have a high demand on the available technical resources. This will lead to high demands on the available technical resources. This will lead to high demands being placed on the client. The developed system must have a modest requirement, as only minimal or null changes are required for implementing this system.
SOCIAL FEASIBILITY
The aspect of study is to check the level of acceptance of the system by the user. This includes the process of training the user to use the system efficiently. The user must not feel threatened by the system, instead must accept it as a necessity. The level of acceptance by the users solely depends on the methods that are employed to educate the user about the system and to make him familiar with it. His level of confidence must be raised so that he is also able to make some constructive criticism, which is welcomed, as he is the final user of the system.

ABSTRACT
1.AIM:

The project is mainly aimed at providing a most secured and user friendly online voting system.
2.INTRODUCTION:
• Internet voting will allow the casting of electronic ballots from virtually any location around the world.
• Elections may be organized in many different ways. Paper-based elections make use of paper ballots, while automated elections make use of some kind of voting machines that automate the voting and/or tabulation procedures.
• When the voting machines are actually implemented by computers, we talk about electronic voting.
• Online voting systems are much more formal than online polling systems, because they seek (or should seek) to accurately reflect the voters' preferences.
• The present report focuses on online (electronic) voting systems. If the network used is the Internet, this fact may be emphasized by using the term Internet voting instead.
3.EXISTING SYSTEM: paper-based voting systems originated as a system where votes are cast and counted by hand, using paper ballots. With the advent of electronic tabulation came systems where paper cards or sheets could be marked by hand, but counted electronically. These systems included punched card voting, marksense and later digital pen voting systems.
Most recently, these systems can include an Electronic Ballot Marker (EBM), that allow voters to make their selections using an electronic input device.
A direct-recording electronic voting machine records votes by means of a ballot display provided with mechanical or electro-optical components that can be activated by the voter (typically buttons or a touchscreen); that processes data with computer software; and that records voting data and ballot images in memory components. After the election it produces a tabulation of the voting data stored in a removable memory component and as printed copy. The system may also provide a means for transmitting individual ballots or vote totals to a central location for consolidating and reporting results from precincts at the central location. These systems use a precinct count method that tabulates ballots at the polling place. They typically tabulate ballots as they are cast and print the results after the close of polling
4.PROPOSED SYSTEM:
1. ONLINE VOTING SYSTEM is a voting system by which any Voter can use his\her voting rights from any where in India. ONLINE VOTING SYSTEM contains-:
•Voter’s information in database.

Various operational works that are done in the system are:-
•Recording information of the Voter in Voter database.
•Checking of information filled by voter.
•Discard the false information.
•cach information is sent to ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA.
2. Planned approach towards working: - The working in the organization will be well planned and organized. The data will be stored properly in data stores, which will help in retrieval of information as well as its storage.
2. Accuracy: - The level of accuracy in the proposed system will be higher. All operation would be done correctly and it ensures that whatever information is coming from the center is accurate.
3. Reliability: - The reliability of the proposed system will be high due to the above stated reasons. The reason for the increased reliability of the system is that now there would be proper storage of information.
4. No Redundancy: - In the proposed system utmost care would be that no information is repeated anywhere, in storage or otherwise. This would assure economic use of storage space and consistency in the data stored.
5. Immediate retrieval of information: - The main objective of proposed system is to provide for a quick and efficient retrieval of information.
6. Immediate storage of information: - In manual system there are many problems to store the largest amount of information.
7. Easy to Operate: - The system should be easy to operate and should be such that it can be developed within a short period of time and fit in the limited budget of the user

1.1 GENERAL
India is a constitutional democracy with a parliamentary system of government, and at the heart of the system is a commitment to hold regular, free and fair elections. These elections determine the composition of the government, the membership of the two houses of parliament, the state and union territory legislative assemblies, and the Presidency and vice-presidency. Elections are conducted according to the constitutional provisions, supplemented by laws made by Parliament.
The aim of the project is to create and manage polling and election details. This is a system which enables all citizens to cast their vote online. Increasing the voting percentage across the country is the major goal of this project. People have to visit the booth to cast their vote in the present system across the country. This system is online and hence even people who live out of their home town can also vote. Database of all the eligible citizens and candidates are maintained by the system.
Online voting system gathers its own significance since the NRI voting Rights bill have been passed by the parliament on Feb 11 ,2011. . The new law will allow an Indian citizen residing abroad to enroll in voter’s list and exercise his franchise even if he or she remained away from place of residence in India for more than six months owing to employment, education or otherwise. In the present case the person should be present within the constituency on the day of polling for exercising his right to vote.
Thus our project, online voting should enhance the opportunities of voters outside the country to vote for their nation on implementation.

1.3. INTROUCTION TO TOOLS
1.3.1. LINUX

Linux is an operating system, a software program that controls your computer. Most vendors load an operating system onto the har d drive of a PC before delivering the PC.
Linux is distinguished from many popular operating systems in three important ways:
Linux is a cross-platform operating system that runs on many computer models. Only UNIX, an ancestor of Linux, rivals Linux in this respect.Linux is free, in two senses. First, you may pay nothing to obtain and use Linux. On the other hand, you may choose to purchase Linux from a vendor who bundles Linux with special documentation or applications, or who provides technical support. However, even in this case, the cost of Linux is likely to be a fraction of what you'd pay for another operating system. So, Linux is free or nearly free in an economic sense.
ADVANTAGES OF LINUX
Linux source code is freely distributed. Tens of thousands of programmers have reviewed the source code to improve performance, eliminate bugs, and strengthen security. No other operating system has ever undergone this level of review. This Open Source design has created most of the advantages listed below.
Linux has the best technical support available. Linux is supported by commercial distributors, consultants, and by a very active community of users and developers. In 1997, the Linux community was awarded InfoWorld's Product of the Year Award for Best Technical Support over all commercial software vendors.
Linux has no vendor lock-in. The availability of source code means that every user and support provider is empowered to get to the root of technical problems quickly and effectively. This contrasts sharply with proprietary operating systems, where even top-tier support providers must rely on the OS vendor for technical information and bug fixes.
Linux runs on a wide range of hardware. Most Linux systems are based on standard PC hardware, and Linux supports a very wide range of PC devices. However, it also supports a wide range of other computer types, including Alpha, Power PC, 680x0, SPARC, and Strong Arm processors, and system sizes ranging from PDAs
Linux has the tools and applications you need. Programs ranging from the market-dominating Apache web server to the powerful GIMP graphics editor are included in most Linux distributions. Free and commercial applications meet are available to meet most application needs.
Linux interoperates with many other types of computer systems. Linux communicates using the native networking protocols of Unix, Microsoft Windows 95/NT, IBM OS/2, Netware, and Macintosh systems and can also read and write disks and partitions from these and other operating systems.
Linux has a low total cost of ownership. Although the Linux learning curve is significant, the stability, design, and breadth of tools available for Linux result in very low ongoing operating costs.
Linux: all for one and one for all?? All changes one makes in Open Source software will benefit each and everyone, all over the world. Without exceptions or constraints.
