VIZAG STEEL PLANT
ABSTRACT
Steel has always been the backbone of economy. Nation from an annual production of 13 million tons in 1900, the steel world productionraised to 300 million tonnes in 1950 and 842 million tons in 2000. Indiaproduces 30 million tonnes per year from 9 big factories. The main steelplants contribute 19 million tons and the rest is provided by secondarysector. Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is one of the 6 integrated plantscontributing 3.510.000 steel tons of liquid steel per year. It is the only mill in India accredited to the standard ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001certificates for quality environment and the security aspects of the makingactivities steel. With the improvement of the operational performance of the main system unitsand by effective maintenance and handling of the plant has madea tour autour and made a net profit of 2100 rupees crore in FY 2004-05 thecurrent. This project deals with the verification of the critical Trunnionring design of a LD Converter process equipment used for steel-making process. Converter TheLD is a steel shell coated with a refractory material used for handlingthe steel melted at 1650 ° C ship is suspended on a trunnion withfour ring number of pulls and runs at 0, 1-1, 0 RPM through four hungreducers and a special with 4 engines reducer - 172KW DC.
