Abstract
A new teleoperated system for live line maintenance is developed for electrical util-
ity. It's aim is to increase the safety and comfort of the workers and the overall
eciency, as well as to reduce labour requirements. Its design is basically like other
similar systems already developed. It consists of a pair of hydraulic driven master-
slave teleoperated manipulators placed on top of an insulated boom, which execute
directly on the hot line tasks commanded via master arms by an operator on the
ground. Tele-presence of the operator is accomplished through a 3D vision system,a
multimedia interface and the force feedback capabilities of the manipulators.
INTRODUCTION
As a consequence of today's highly information oriented society, and increasing de-
mand of electricity uninterrupted power supply has become a must. In conventional
techniques of outage free maintenance, workers have to do their job in a hot line
indirectly using hot sticks or rubber insulated gloves. So they have to work in a
hazardous environment. Therefore workers have to face high risks of shock and
danger of falling from high place. To avoid these risks; a teleoperated system was
developed. The rst prototype was developed by EPRI in USA and KEPCO in
Japan. The latest technology introduced is an industrial prototype called ROBTET
(ROBot para Trabajos En Tension)
ADVANTAGES OF ROBTET
The introduction of telerobotic technology for live line maintenance

gives the fol-
lowing advantages.
Ability to do and improve outage free maintenance in countries with

strict
regulation regarding the interaction of humans with energized

components
Increase in the safety and comfort of the workers
Decrease in cost by eliminating the need for live men ie; workers in

hazardous
environment.
Able to work under moderate bad weather conditions.
 Decrease in requirements.
