Introduction to Conducting Polymer
Conjugated Polymer
Organic electronic molecules
Physics of these materials
Applications

What is a polymer?

A long molecule made
up from lots of small
molecules called
monomers

Definition

Mono = Single
Poly = many
mer = Part

Polymer consists of very large number of
monomer assembled by covalent bond
by covalent bond.

Polymers

Terminology:
mer: a unit
monomer: one unit
dimer: two units
trimer: three units
tetramer: four units
Polymer: many units
Pre-polymer: growing
towards being a polymer
Oligomers=Few units fixed in size
Homo Polymer=polymer of fixed mer type
